Designing Summer Programs in Districts with Diverse Needs

February 12, 2019 15:00 A.M. PS

Summer programs have grown in complexity as student needs have expanded from requiring remediation to advanced opportunities. Yet the challenges to designing cost-effective, feasible summer educational opportunities remain.

Join us for a webinar to learn about the summer school models Clark County School District has designed to meet diverse needs through personalized learning. Kim Loomis will share about district-level design elements and best practices for district-hosted centralized summer schools, as well as those hosted entirely in-house by a school. Joining her from The Mojave High School, Assistant Principal Timothy Wells will provide tactical detail on how these programs perform and illustrate how to replicate them to ensure positive outcomes for all students.

You will learn:

  • How to build flexible offerings and solutions into your summer school program to serve the entire student population.
  • How to make summer school programs a reality given the constraints of budget, staffing, transportation, facilities, and curriculum planning.
  • Best practices for designing summer school programs, including defining staff responsibilities and motivating students.
